ANNOUNCEMENTS

Community Connections

Madison Youth and Family Services is happy to announce the start of a program through which adults from Madison with mentor local teenagers.  Our goal is to reach youth who otherwise might not connect with community programs.  We need interested and committed adults and teens for approximately one hour a week to make this program successful.  For further information please call Melissa Balletto at 245-5656.

Summer Camp Scholarships Available

Madison Community Services kindly allotted funds to assist families in need with scholarship money for summer camp.  Through the generosity of the Town’s Beach and Recreation Department, they are able to provide a reduced rate for their “Summer Escape” program.  For information on this and other programs available please contact Wendy Larson at 245-5655.

The training is available to students in grades 7 - 12 that are interested in becoming more involved in and connected to their community.  Once the training is complete students will have the opportunity to volunteer at various locations.  Please contact Melissa Balletto or Erin Corbett at Madison Youth and Family Services for further details, 245-5645.

Peer Support Group for Boys Adapting to Divorce

Divorce, by it’s very nature, transforms and redefines families forever.  All kids face new challenges and develop coping strategies to deal with their transforming families.  Much of this unfolds slowly, quietly despite the fact that it raises new questions and issues with each new life stage.

Polson Middle School, in collaboration with Madison Youth and Family Services, has created a group for boys who have experienced the divorce of their parents.  It is a voluntary school-based support group for 8th grade boys that meets biweekly during the school day.  The group will provide a consistent, safe environment with their peers to learn about healthy coping strategies and how to support one another.  It is our goal to provide information to normalize their experiences and offer strategies to handle their emotions and their actions in the healthiest possible way.  We would begin the group in January and end in May, 2007.  The group will occur during a related arts period, hopefully a study hall

For information please contact either Charlene Doane (245-6487) or Scott Cochran (245-1043)
