Peer Support Group for Boys Adapting to Divorce

Divorce, by it’s very nature, transforms and redefines families forever.  All kids face new challenges and develop coping strategies to deal with their transforming families.  Much of this unfolds slowly, quietly despite the fact that it raises new questions and issues with each new life stage.

Polson Middle School, in collaboration with Madison Youth and Family Services, has created a group for boys who have experienced the divorce of their parents.  It is a voluntary school-based support group for 8th grade boys that meets biweekly during the school day.  The group will provide a consistent, safe environment with their peers to learn about healthy coping strategies and how to support one another.  It is our goal to provide information to normalize their experiences and offer strategies to handle their emotions and their actions in the healthiest possible way.  We would begin the group in January and end in May, 2007.  The group will occur during a related arts period, hopefully a study hall

For information please contact either Charlene Doane (245-6487) or Scott Cochran (245-1043)
